Technology QotW: GivetheEconomyaJump-Start? "Bitter day, bitter day..."(from "Bertie the Bunyip")

How could supporting small businesses help jump-start the economy?
Sponsored by HP.

Beats me. How can I support small businesses if I have no discretionary income? Ask one of the gazillion new millionaires in the world   -- they've got all the money now.

QotD: Happy 4th of July! It's just a Friday. And that's a good thing.

How are you celebrating the 4th of July?

Here's today: doing dishes, writing letters, taking a walk, sending emails, VOXing (I hope), doing laundry, cleaning the filter in the vacuum cleaner. NOT answering the phone if it rings.

Normally I'd put out a couple of small flags, because we always do/did. But it's raining and that's a no-no. I've been told.

It's just another day, and for that I'm profoundly grateful.

What's your favorite song with "America" or "USA" in the title? Bonus points if you share it with us.

Here.

QotD: Tomorrow's Daydream is today's reality. Uh........?

If you could do anything you want tomorrow, what would it be?
Submitted by Becca-Pink.

Same as today. It's not what you do, as much as how you do it. Mostly.

I'm pretty happy with the doing, so the it doesn't matter very much. Mostly.

Pedestrian? Well, I WAS on foot....

Today I went into the small town that is near me. It was crowded and hot and I was in no mood to dawdle, even to take pictures. But some things can't be resisted.  Some of the pix I took are pedestrian. Some aren't. I didn't stop to crop some of them. But here's a little taste of what happens when I take my camera into the outside world:

This really needs to be cropped, but I love the colors as reflections!

The more unusual pix will end up on blogbeams , where I'll torment their little pixels into submission.

For the 1950's "Lady of the House," a Window on the World (Robbbiedobbbie Treasure of the Week)

You see what I see
You see what I see
This is my kitchen window -- it faces our street. The kitchen is in the front of the house, which was unusual (I've been told) in mid-1950's architecture. The designer of the these houses wanted to give "the lady of the house"  a view of the world, something that she'd been lacking for a long time. This concept is what convinced my parents to buy the house before it was finished being built, before there were power lines and real streets, and long before there were trees and lawns. Because all of the houses in the "development" were set up this way, little kids could play out in the front yards, and ride bikes in the street, and still be watched over by our moms in the kitchens.

I grew up at this window.  We moved in when I was around five, and too small to see out (without sitting on the kitchen counter). Now I look out every day, and treasure the view.

Thank You, Widget Box!

You rock. Seriously.
In case anyone doesn't know, Widget Box just paid us a visit and left this comment:

"[ciò è buono] greetings and salutations to all in RobbbieDobbbie's community. First, I am glad that Maukie is back! He is a favorite at Widgetbox as well thousands of other web surfers across the globe.

I wanted to address the experimental ad that was appearing in Maukie. I apologize that there was a bug that kept the ad in its OPEN mode vs rolling back up to an un-intrusive position (as it is intended to do).

Just like a real cat, Maukie needs to be fed. It costs money to make Maukie appear on thousands of pages across the web every day and we need a way in which to support this service.

We promise to be more careful as we move forward and we promise to come out with less intrusive methods for achieving this. We are not sure when we will run our next test, but we will definitely come back to this community to get your feedback as it is very important to us to address the needs of our Maukie viewers (and the other 60k wonderful widgets we serve).

Please feel free to send us your comments directly to support@widgetbox.com and we will also keep an eye here for feedback."

Here's the post.
